Does anyone else have to work retail that day? I do, and I have to be at work at 4:45 AM!

If you do, do you like working that day or do you dread it?

CRAZIEST SHOPPING DAY! People will always be asking you, where can I find the digiCam, Laptop, Cell Phone, Plasma TV. They will always be like: Can you check if there is more in the back? The madness usually stops around noon, 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM.

This is my first year with non-retail job after having worked retail the last eight years. Black Friday was probably the only day of the year I preferred a night shift over a day shift. The early morning crowd was often pushy and impatient. It normally would calm down by mid-afternoon. The only thing bad about closing was the recovery. Either way, I was pretty worn out by the end of the day. For me, the best part about Black Friday was that it only came once a year.

As I said, I'm out of retail, working for a news and information service. We're open 24/7/365, but I made it a point to have off on Black Friday. Not even going shopping, either. I just like finally being able to have that day off!

I hate it as I worked at a discount retailer for many years and always the closing shift. The place I work now doesn't stay open extended hours and is much smaller but I dread it. People need to understand when the store closes at 10, they need to be out of there, not shopping and getting to the line at 10 30, have some consideration for the employees.

This is my 7th year working what we call "Blitz Day". Just relax, take a deep breath, and concentrate on only ONE customer at a time. Don't look at your line! I know that this is hard to do (if you cashier), but just don't do it....you will freak out! Just be pleasant.

The rudeness is a myth. Most customers are pleasant unless someone else was rude to them or they got pushed coming into the store or going after an item. It's a great day and it's a busy day. It goes by fast!

The best time for me working on that day is early in the morning so I can talk to the customers and leave before the store closes. It will be maddening cleaning up after everyone leaves.
