I have Active-x installed and have been advised that is a mistake - so how do I un-install?

ActiveX is not harmful in itself. You can disable it just fine by using the above answer, however, you will be disabling a lot of on-line features in the process.

Disabling ActiveX will help prevent spyware from getting in though.

I would leave ActiveX alone and make sure you have a good set of anti-spyware programs such as Defender, Ad-Aware, Spybot...etc.

you can disable it, not uninstall it. Go to internet properties, then on the security properties select custom button, then everything that says Active X set to disable...I have used it for years and have not had an issue...why were you told it was a mistake to have it?
