I believe he sincerely thought he was doing right. The first suspect after 9/11 was Iraq's dictator after Operation Desert Storm and sanctions. He was our greatest enemy at the time. Now, we have only made new enemies and one of our oldest, much more influential and powerful. He was basing his decisions on the information presented to him, after all, he was not the one performing actual investigations and research. I truly believe he is a good-hearted person who was mostly mislead by advisors.

First of all, he is a big business placeholder or proxy president. He is not an idealogue or visionary. He is the man big business needed in, and they put him in.
Now, that may not mean that he personally does not love America. But I will note one thing: The one time in his life he had a chance to put his money where his mouth was to prove his love of country -- namely, during the Vietnam conflict -- he skipped town and hid out for a few years. That speaks volumes. He's no patriot.

We will never know. And while such philosophical ponderings provide entertainment, in the end - it doesn't matter why he did anything. Only the remnant reality matters, the same as for all of us. If I drop a safe on your chest, you will not care why - only that I expediently remove the safe.
