Hi, I want to connect my laptop to my Dreambox so that they can communicate. The laptop will connect to broadband via a wireless connection (or mobile phone when I travel), and the Dreambox needs to be able to download from online, I guess through the laptop's internet connection. Do I need a cross over or straight through cable?

You will need a cross over R45 to RJ45 cable to connect your laptop to the Dreambox.
If however, you use a network switch (very cheap around £20/£30) then you will need 2 straight cables and connect each item to the network switch. Hope this helps.

For both cases, you will have to configure ICS (internet connection sharing) on your laptop. With XP it should be plain sailing

Crossover.

If you want to communicate both of them. A straight through is only one way. You may need a hub for that if you want a straight.
