A brilliant question, I wish I had an answer as good.
The whole issue is simple, our politicians sold "our water" to the City of London's share brokers who sold it to eventually the main one the French. (London Water).
We are paying for a natural resource and have to listen to all the excuses of why its so expensive. Its all a load of bull.
Beware if you get solar power this government will sell the sun shine (or tax it) to someone to you must pay to use it.
The system is rotten to the core.

In Africa you can hire a man to lay the pipes for £2 a day. Would you work for that rate in the UK? Also the pipes are made locally and by cheap labour. Would you make pipes for £60 a month?
Things are cheap in Africa because people are poor. The pound is a strong currency and buys a lot over there.
Also it does rain in Africa. Some parts of Africa are rainforests or swamps. It does not rain in the Sahara desert but it rains in many areas and water can be piped from there.

well of course the african familires that live in complete squalor and degridation have also been asked not to use the water they travel miles for and carry for 6 hours to wash their cars as well. Also they are not allowed to use hose pipes which is why they carry the water for 6 hours.

You have to remember that the oxfam advert doesnt stipulate which day the african family will get water on, and lets be honest if its raining they wouldnt need it anyway ( and the car would be clean)

Get a water meter. If you change your mind within a year you can have it taken out. My water bill went down from £660 per year to £19 per month with a meter. At the time daughter was in residence, at least 2 baths every day and 8 loads of washing each week.

The answer lies in the infrastructure of pipes, purifiers etc. If you were prepared to walk every day with a bucket to collect untreated water from a reservoir miles away, in the same way that many Africans have to walk miles to a well sunk by a charitable organisation, your water might come a bit cheaper.

Count the taps in your house. Well most African families have none. That 50 pence a day will put 1 tap in each village. If you want to live with1 tap for every 300 people be my guest.

That's so true!!! I saw an advert on TV recently which said: "The amount of money one UK family spend on food every week could feed an African family for a whole year!"

And I couldn't help thinking: We're being overcharged for our groceries!!

I would consider yourself lucky then. My water bill yearly is £368 and thats bare basic without any extras.

I dont know what your complaining for, those poor people in Africa don't have what you have.
