I hate to throw my old magazines (mostly People) away, but I have tried (unsuccessfully) to sell many of them on Ebay. Is there anywhere else I can go to to try to sell the magazines?

Donate them to the Cub scouts. Soon they will be collecting old magazines and such for their annual drive!

Realistically, you won't be able to sell those unless they are rare -perhaps the very first issue, 10th anniversary issue, etc. That said, recycling is the best option. Check with libraries near you about recycling. Ours has a booth-type station that old newspapers and magazines can be deposited into for recycling. I have some stacks of Money and Kiplinger's that I'm taking to drop off. I am keeping the oldest ones though but that will only be about 4 or 5 but just for historical reasons, not to sell because they certainly aren't rare. Clean out the clutter! Good Luck!

I assume you're in North America? I never sold old magazines when I lived in the US, but in Indonesia you find people who would come to your house and buy junk like old magazines, empty bottles and cans, carton boxes, and all that for the equivalent of a dollar or two (or even less? it's been awhile since i've lived in a real house in Indonesia). They usually take them to factories to be recycled, and that's how they make a living. I don't know if people like that exist in North America, but maybe that gives you ideas.

If you can't sell them but hate to throw them away, here's something you can do with it... it may even make you way more money than selling old mags (indirectly):

MAKE A DREAM BOOK

Get a blank book. Decorate the cover with cutout letters and pictures from magazine headlines, e.g. "Maggie's Dream Book".

Think of some things you want to have, things you picture yourself/your loved ones doing, and places you want to go. E.g. a new car, or a cruise to the Norwegian fjords. Hunt for these pictures in those old magazines. Select the best pictures and stick it in your book.

Write a target date as to when you want to have those things in your pictures. If possible, also find out how much those things would cost and write a small dollar value underneath your pictures.

You will find yourself poring over the book for hours with a big smile on your face.

This is how it works: when you get tired or fed up or upset at work, have a flip through your dream book and remind yourself that whatever you're going through is just a down payment for a reward that's worth it. When you expect and you work, the money always turn up somehow: you get a bonus, your investments go well, or you find a money-making business opportunity. It's not logical, but it's a true phenomenon.

Disclaimer: it won't work if you do it with the "I don't believe it but let's give it a try" attitude... it'll bless you if you drive the miles with focus and expectancy.

Donate them. Drop off a handful at some doctor's offices, free clinics, womens' shelters, homeless shelters, etc. Depending on the topic of the magazines, donate them to local schools. Some classes can use magazines about money, politics, culture, etc. These would be mostly junior and senior high classes.

Recycle them or give them to the library. Old magazines don't usually sell well...however, some libraries sell them for a quarter each and donate to charity or towards trivial library things.

Donate them to hair salons. Women in there don't care how old the magazine is, as long as it something to read while getting their hair dyed!

have you tried taking them to fleamarkets? I don't think you will get a lot of money but it would be better than just throwing them away.
how about a weekend bazaar?

No one wants to buy magazines with all the pages stuck together.
