during the part where ace chases the guy running, and pours a liquid from a bottle onto a cloth, then catches the guy and puts the liquid soaked cloth over the guys mouth, and the guy drops and goes to sleep, what was that liquid that made the guy go to sleep?

Chloroform. It was one of the earlier anesthetics used.
Ether is similar, but it has a much more unpleasant smell. Both chloroform and ether are considered safer than many anaesthetics used today, but they often made the patient very ill when they woke up.

CHLOROFORM-remember Bi0logy class when you were in 5th(6th?) grade and u dropped a cottonball dipped in something to make the frogs go ippy time before you had to pin him up to the paraffin tray?
