ok yeah the brand is a big thing but the main thing is Ipod doesn't have a radio and most mp3 do (depending on the brand) also most mp3 run on batteries where an ipod can be charged and their are some more stuff but I cant remember hope it helps clarrify that

an ipod is a digital music player which does actually use its own compression format. Why most of them are called mp3 players is the fact that mp3 is the most common used format and most players will play it however there are plenty of other formats.
