i'm only 16, I have my permit. I havn't been driving for about 3 months now, and i'm scared....every friday night I told my dad to wake up early next morning to go driving with me. but when it comes to saturday morning, i get all nervous and say let's do it next week...and next week and next week...I don't know why I just get so nervous when I have to drive....but at the same time, i'm always jealous of my friends, most of them already have their own car, and I really want my own car too. but the problem is, I'm scared...how am I suppose to get my license.? anybody has the same situation?
also is there any tip? because I suck at turning...but when I'm in a empty parking lot, I can turn perfectly, but once I get on the road, I see cars on the opposite of the road, and I'm afraid when I turn, i'll hit their car...cuz my turning angle is pretty big...
HELPP!!!

For starters, please don't be so hard on yourself. You are just learning how to drive! I"m 42 and I've never had an accident nor had a ticket (the ticket part is a miracle as I don't always stick to the speed limit) Even though I know I'm a good driver I become very anxious when faced with driving on busy mult-lane highways and driving at night. I cope with these fears by forcing myself to do both, but in short duration. It's hard but so far so good. I recommend to you that you plan a date to drive, somewhere in your neighbourhood (perhaps an industrial area on a Sunday) where there's not a lot of traffic. Start by saying 'I"m only going to drive for 10 minutes'. Do it and go home. See how you feel. If you feel like driving longer do so. Practice the things you don't feel confident with, like turning. Ask for advice from your dad. Take it slow and realize it'll take time and practice to build up your confidence. Congratulations to you for being aware of what's going on around you while driving. Seems a lot of people don't. Also, practice very defensive driving. Good luck. Hope some of this helps!

Practice a lot. The more you practice, the better you get, then you won't be so nervous anymore. I'm 16 and the first time I EVER operated a car was in Driver's Ed a few months ago, with *no* previous practice or knowledge of anything. My parents hadn't taken my driving at all, even when I had a permit. It was quite scary. I ended up failing the "driving" part of the course, but did I kill anyone? Nope. Since then, I've been out practicing at least 4 times a week and I'm planning on taking the DOT test to get my license sometime in the very near future. Just try not to be nervous. Practice, practice, practice. Everything will be fine. Pay attention to things, be natural. You'll get there

In through the nose, out through the mouth...have him take you to back to the empty parking lot 'til you REALLY feel like you've got good car control...pay attention when you're riding with other people, too. Traffic can be unnerving sometimes...patience is the best way to deal with it. Also, 3 right turns equal a left, in city driving...if traffic's too bad, try an alternate route. Better safe than sorry...

Mandy--if yer that much of a wimp, i'd suggest you wait for a couple of years, until yer brain catches up with the rest of yer body! Stay home, learn to cook, pay attention in school, learn much, controll yer feelings, temper, pay attention to things other than driving, and then try again after a couple years. You're really not mature enough to drive a car now, so give it time, until you grow up!

if there are any side rds. that do not have much traffic then practice there for a while until you get the feel of the car & are more comfortable w/ driving

good luck & Happy Thanksgiving
