The "Baby-Mercedes" 190E, is a car of economics and comfort. The luxury line of mercedes(More-expensive) have the higher performance engines and drivetrains! "Swaping" parts create unforseen problems, safety and reliability should never be compromised. If one desires a 400 or a 500 MB engine and transmission, then the "chasis" should be compatible. Good luck!

If you want to do some serious ************ on the road, find a 91-93 300CE...

It's the sleeper "hot-rod" MBZ, with a 220HP I-6, which grumbles like an american V-8, rev's to a true 7000RPM, maxes out at roughly 150MPH, and get's about 25MPG.

Trying to show-horn anything into the 190E will get VERY expensive VEY quickly, and you'll have a freak of a car, which will be very hard to sell down the road, or smog certify, etc.

Another thing to consider is the mass in the front of the car would drastically alter the handling/braking since weight distribution is jacked.

Not really. The engine compartment is too small for the V-8s and the V-8 trans won't fit the trans hump. V-6 is a toss-up; it'll be an expensive swap.

It will be far cheaper and realistic to purchase 190E 2.6 which has M103 In-line 6 cylinder engine from factory. Be aware though, engine compartment is really tight....

noooooooooo!!not enough space in there plus you would need to modify a lot of other stuff, too (e.g. brakes, transmission...)
