(1) I don't know about pronunciation, but when Noah Webster published the first dictionary, he deliberately made British and American spellings different, because he wanted American English to be distinct. I believe accents are natural between north and south. Even in America, there is the difference. There are also regional dialects where people from the same country cannot always understand each other's terms or phrases used.

(2) The myth of Narcissus and Echo came from the Greeks.
As punishment for Narcissus being so self-centered he became fixated on his own reflection in the water that he turned into a flower named after him. Echo was so talkative that she was restricted to speaking only the last few words that someone else said. After she was rejected by Narcissus, she disappeared into the mountains and became the echo we hear in large cavernous areas.

Another Greek myth that explains the seasons is the story of Demeter, Persephone and Hades, who kidnapped Persephone and made her his Queen in the cold dark underworld. In grief for her lost daughter, Demeter, the goddess of the harvest, froze the earth over where nothing would grow. So the compromise was that Persephone would spend 6 months of the year with her husband (the fall/winter months, while Demeter grieves) and the other 6 months with her mother who would let the world flourish again in the spring and summer while she has her daughter.

(3) tragedies are sad, do not have a happy ending, but end in misfortune, usually death or defeat of the hero or heroine

(4) I study in America because I need all the free speech and press I can get to communicate the ideas I want to share, study and develop. From there, I believe all places can eventually develop schools and communities where the same level of intellectual freedom and communication can be respected. But until then, it seems everyone turns to America to study and solve problems that aren't getting worked out elsewhere. I see the US as more of an experimental lab than a melting pot.
