Your best bet is to have the Windows CD with you and start the machine with it in the CD/DVD drive.
Most modern computers can boot from a CD. Pop the Windows Disc into your CD/DVD drive and it should boot you into the "installing Windows" routine.
If your disc doesn't automatically boot then go into your BIOS (usually by pressing the "DEL" or "F10" key to enter the BIOS). Make sure that your CD is listed before your HDD in the BIOS under boot device order. Save your BIOS changes and the machine will restart. Again you need to make sure the CD is in the Drive when you start the machine.
The machine should now boot into the windows routine. Once it goes through the usual checks you'll get to a point where it asks you about partitions. Make sure you delete all partitions and create a new one. Once you've done this and proceed to the next step, windows will ask how you want to format the new partition. Choose any of the options ( I usually go with the quick format) and Windows will format and then transfer the files for installation across automatically. Once it prompts you to restart do not touch the keyboard not even when it tells you too...and Windows will do everything automatically, be patient!
Once Windows is installed you'll need the drivers for the various parts in the machine. Make sure you get the following drivers before removing windows and burn them onto a CD.
You'll need to know what you have installed in your machine so go to... START -> SETTINGS -> CONTROL PANEL. Double Click on SYSTEM and then click on the HARDWARE Tab. Then Click the Device Manager button.
write down the name of the devices for the following and google them adding the word "driver" to the google search to point you towards drivers.
You'll need the following drivers to make sure things get going quickly. Sometimes you have them on the CD that came with the individual part.
Graphics cards drivers
Sound Card drivers
Wireless and/or Network device drivers
If you use a USB ADSL Modem get the driver first otherwise you won't be able to get onto the internet, obviously you'll need your account info as well.
If you're installing Windows XP make sure that you put on Service Pack 2 and enable the Firewall.
Don't forget that once you're back on the internet you should download the latest Service Packs and updates.
I've included a link to Microsoft's own installation info which is pretty short and not very informative. The bottom two links are much better and provide screen shots.
Hope that helps

First you need to have all your CDs. Usually when you insert the first CD there is a wizard that does everything: from formatting your computer to installing the new Windows OS.
Watch out that if you are not very good in this you risk to find youself stuck in a problem that you cannot solve easily, so keep a phone number of some support at hand!

Simple put in your Windows XP CD, or if you have a factory computer (Dell, Emachines, HP) put in the restore disk. Now just restart the computer. There will be sort of a wizard, that first wipe out the hard drive, then reinstall Windows. Please make sure you have things backed up to a floppy or burned to a CD, like your email address book, Favorites, and documents. That's it, get a coke and wait for it to do it's magic. Best of luck

Turn on your computer.
Put in the CD that came with your computer (XP operating system).
Re-start your computer.
When you see "press enter (or any key) to boot from disk" press enter.
Follow the instructions:
You should see the option to "delete the old partition".
That means you delete everything on your computer,
and you install a "new partition".
Keep following the instructions to install XP from the CD that came with your computer.
The whole process will take about an hour, as it goes through the different steps.
