I'm starting a small business, selling jewellery and accessories.
I'm thinking of naming the "brand" Desire, but would prefer a more unique spelling.
So far, I've come up with the following:-
* D'zyr
* D'zyre
* D'zyer
* D'zayer
* D'zayr

I really can't decide which of the above I should use.

Pls give your honest opinions with regards to the above names. And if you prefer one to the others, pls also state your reasons.

Thank you so very much! =)

I dont intend the names to confuse anyone. I want it spelt differently so it wouldnt be mistaken for somethin else or evn someone else's business.

I also want the name to be a bit more fun. Afterall I am gonna sell accessories/jewellery, and people are supposed to have fun with them.

It may even seem frivolous to some that I'm spendin so much time on the name when I really should be workin on the marketin strategy. But I do think that the name/brand is one of the strategies to mktg. Businesses, regardless whether it's big or small, should have its own identity — name, brand, logo and all.

But cos I'm not half as creative as the people who named Nike, eBay, Google, etc., I could only use of normal words and make it look unique.

& there is a reason why I picked Desire for the core over everythin else.

Truthfully, I dont need people to know how it's supposed to sound. They may even call it the D-somethin that sells accessories. Just as long as they know such a brand exists.

To be honest I think that trying to use names with "cleaver" spellings is a bit of a disaster. You know how you pronounce each word because you have been thinking about it for ages and they are based on your personal pronunciation but the truth is that all of the words you have given in your question are totally confusing when seen for the first time. Any brand name must be instantly recognizable and readable to potential clients to have any value at all. Desire is fine exactly as it is - unique words only have meaning to the inventor of those words. Try and spend some time thinking up a short phrase using the word desire like "Your Heart's Desire" for example, you may well come up with a winner. Good luck with your business.

First of all, if the items aren't original there's no reason whatsoever to worry about "branding" unless you plan some large regional/national campaign.

Second, what benefit is it to create a name which is hard to remember? Either use a normal word or invent a new word (Nike, Ebay, etc.) which doesn't apply to you...they spend MILLIONS just to get folks to remember the name,

The name is the wrong place to spend your effort...the marketing is the right place.

I've seen this over and over again. People spend time frivolously instead of concentrating on selling. Typically it's out of fear.

So much for you picking me as the best answer...

My opinion, if you're 100% passionate about what you're doing, you'll want everyone to own your J&As. When I go toe to toe with my customers, they buy because selling is a transferance of feeling. Passion is contagious.

Pick your name and get on with it!

I think it is very confusing when companies purposely miss spell names. I think you are off track here, and should consider some other options. The last thing you want to do in confuse your customers.

Keep it simple, and think of a name that represents what you do and who you are as a company.

I prefer D'zyre, because it still reads as desire, some of the others people might not inderstand how it's meant to sound.

And it sounds kind of magical, i like it great idea!
