There is a lever under the door and when the driver gets off the bus they just pull under the door to shut it. I watched my bus driver do it several times.

I've watched the drivers when they go on break. The bus usually has a small access door on the front panel of the bus -- much like the little trapdoor cars have for the gas cap -- where the driver inserts his ignition key and that operates the door.

There is a little button to the right hand side of the door as you look at it from the outside and the driver just has to press it.
How do I know - I have spent far too much time in bus stations waiting for late buses!!!!

The bus driver does. There's an external lever, usually hidden.

The driver usually closes it using the 'emergency' open and close button that a passenger could use in an emergency.

He has a special latch that enables him to close it and open it. Then he locks it.
