Coins are kind of a personal thing. Some people like the big cartwheels (Silver dollars), others like the Bust half dollars and some like the strange coins, that have showed up from time to time. Some collect periods of time, such as the Civil War coinage.I will give you a list of different coins that add up close to your figure. You can get a large cent that may for under $16.50-$25.00. Civil war Indian head cent $5.00-$12.50. 1862 2 cent piece in grade very good $14.50,1868 fine copper nickel 3 cent piece for $15.50. 1883 no cents nickel in About uncirculated $10.50. 1853 arrows fine 1/2 dime $21.50 or maybe a 1878-S silver dollar very fine for 19.50.

Buy a metal detector. You can search just about any public land and whatever you find is yours...Free! You can buy metal detectors that can tell you what type of metal you found and how deep it's buried. Prices can range from $80 to $500+. Depending on your location, you may find some historic items, like the Civil War, for your collection. My dad does this in the Spring/Summer. He's found things from bottle caps, tin toy cars to coins.
