You didn't say which state your in state laws differ but I think its 8 hours in California between shifts. You might talk to the manager about how long it takes you to get home after work. Maybe you can work out a compromise.

Well, you could call them and tell them that there's no way that you can work these shifts. You have to explain to them that you're only going to get 3 hours of sleep, and you won't be able to do a good job unless you get at least 8 hours of sleep every night. If they don't agree, you probably have to just stick it out. Get as much sleep as you can wherever you can and you'll be fine.

unless you have a contract of employement stating ypor hours to work the onus on you working extended hours is diownn to you but if you have no contract the employer can make life difficult by you accepting the hours of work iwork for a company as self employed they operate 24/7 i have to tell them i am not available or i would be expected to work 24/7

It would be Illegal if you was a lorry driver, but as your not Im not sure. Cant be right, finish at 11.30 pm then start again at 7 am. Refuse to do it. If they sack you then take them to a tribunal. Your manager is not a very good manager if expects you work those hours. Stick to your guns and refuse to do it. Its just not reasonable.

I think the law states that you have to leave around 10-12 hours between shifts, and your fully within your rights to refuse to do this. If they discipine you, you can appeal have have a pretty heathly case I would imagine!

I think you need to have a 12 hour gap between shifts. Check with the ACAS website that will give you a definite answer.

I dont know what the law is, but have a word with your boss. If they are not understanding and accomodating, then you need to ask yourself if you want to work for someone like that. I wouldnt.
