It is a fact that they are the most notorious crooks of the world, and it is no wonder that the Nigerian scams are named after them.

Nigeria is probably yet another of those ungovernable countries. Created by colonial powers and totally unrealistic as a nation state.
It is the richest African country.
It has the highest level of corruption.
.
It has 250 languages.
Nigeria has more than 250 ethnic groups, with varying languages and customs, creating a country of rich ethnic diversity. The largest ethnic groups are the Hausa, Fulani, Yoruba, Ibo (Ibo), Ijaw, Kanuri, Ibibio, and Tiv.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigeria,
It is in dire straits.
So some people are fraudsters.
The criminal uses information they trick from the gullible victims and commonly strips their bank account.
These style of incidents alone cost the UK economy £150m a year - with the average victim losing £31,000 the report said.
Other examples of crimes included in the Chatham House report include more than £20m forged cheques and postal orders couriered from Nigeria's commercial capital Lagos being found in one day at Heathrow Airport.
"The scale and scope of Nigeria-related financial crime highlights critical wider failures in the way the British authorities tackle fraud, corruption and money laundering

If anybody can hoodwink the Chinese, they must be the
most notorious country in world. This story was told to me
by a chinese trader. Due to the numerous requests for
samples of clothing and shoes and no following orders,
this trader sent only the left or right shoes and shirts with
the word "SAMPLES" stamped all over. Can you imagine
his amazement when on a trip to Nigeria he found vendors
selling in the streets only left or only right shoes and
sample stamped clothing. After that, he threw all nigerian
enquiries into the waste basket.

The seem to be rampant with scams and cons. And that is the opinion the world is forming of them. How many of us have had emails from people claiming to be from the nigerian royal family and saying they have lots of money to put into your bank account. They just need your banks details.

I am afraid that I have to disabuse you of that notion. Although there are criminal sections who appear to represent the whole of Nigeria one need only to review the situation in the oil producing delta regions of that huge and diverse nation. I have never heard of Nigerian planes bombing or strafing independent nations and while its' mineral industries help in the production of arms and munitions it is doubtful that they are in the top ten or twenty of the world league for exporting death. It is doubtful that Nigeria possesses chemical ,nuclear or biological manufacturing facility;check your mail carefully.
