Do not open email from people you not know. Verify a friend actually sent a file before opening. Stay away from off the wall websites. Install a good Virus Software and maybe Firewall.
Each virus is different as to manual removal. So, if you get one you can search by that name to learn more as to how it removed.

Install an anti-virus software, update its defination files from the internet and run it manually. It will detect the virus and give you the options to delete the file, repair the file or quarantuine them or leave them as it is depending upon which anti-virus software you are using.

You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at

install anti virus...i recommend mcAfee 8 in 1 internet security suite., it automatically remove viruses., for more protection you need to add firewall to control of the in/outbound data that is transferred to your PC.,
