I just got a Red footed tortoise from petsmart, and I don't know how old it is. His carpace is about 5 inches? I am not looking for an exact date of birth but a good ballpark. Thanks.

Usually with Red foot tortoise you can count the rings on each section of the shell this is usually a good indicator of age . As with trees one ring per year.
At 5" yours should be between 2 and 3 years old.

I'm not usre, but on the adoption papers it should say his birth date. If you didn;t get any adoption papers, just go back to the place you got him and ask. Good luck!

your turtles shell should have small swirls on it, count the rings in the bigest one, if there equal choose one, this will give you some idea of its age
