Your asking the impossible, the brain is always active so therefore you are always thinking.
If you want to stop thinking about something in particular, take up a hobby or learn a musical insturment. Something that will occupy your idle time. As this is the most likely time that you will regress into brooding about things that have happened

TRY MEDITATION....Try yoga and meditation, it's about clearing and emptying your mind from all you thoughts and worries. Then you are capable of feeling you true self, and have peace.
It will be difficult in the beginning but after sometime you will see difference. The solution is not watching tv or keeping busy because you are only masking the problem.
Good luck

Your in big trouble when your capable of not thinking. Try and do it by yourself and you will see that it's not possible. Unless your either brain dead or passed out your mind is always active. If your speaking of a relationship and how to stop thinking of your ex this too is difficult but as time passes your thoughts will improve and you'll think less of them.

Get busy doing things for other people rather than staying stuck inside your own mind.
Doing good for others is the best and fastest cure.

If for meditation then just clear your mind of all thoughts. It sounds easier than it is though. Just calm yourself down and concentrate on your breathing.
