I've been riding motorbikes for many years, offroad and superbikes. Doing simple wheelies with scramblers is easy, but I have never learned to wheelie a superbike. I ride a GSXR-1000, and desperately want to learn to wheelie. The guys from Michelin superbike school at Kyalami (and other riding schools) don't want to do that, even though I'm wiling to pay for proper training. I'm over 40, and ride very well otherwise, I'm just too scared to drop the bike etc... I'm in Kempton Park. Please advise on where to go for training or help with this

if you really want to do some wheelies, start small. Second gear is your friend, stand up wheelies are the way to go because they will give you more control if you do end up getting the front end up too high you will be able to tap the rear brake more smoothly. On the gsxr1000 you will be able to do wheelies without having to use the clutch like you would on a smaller bike such as a 600. Practice in a parking lot to learn them good and soon you will be able to shift in wheelies and start to go long distances. But it all starts with confidence, you have to think to yourself that you will be able to do it and you have to be confident that yo wont crash. Being nervous is natural.

Go look in a mirror, and see if yer head is cracked anywhere! because it will be, when that bigger bike does a back flip, and lands on top of you!
Stick to the small bikes, and save yer bod! What on earth makes people want to show off like that?
And, its illegal to do it on the streets and hiways!
And, those guys at the school are smarter than the average bear! You or your survivors would probably sue them for teaching you to do that fool-hardy stunt!
Of course, if you could buy and wear an iron suit, you'd be protected! But, i think your money would be better spent, if you consulted a doctor to see if your head is screwed on right! LOL

Fear is healthy, in that instance...my suggestion is, maintain a healthy fear of dropping your bike, but if you're hell-bent on doing this thing, which may destroy your bike and maybe even you,
then Google your answer...and may emergency medical services be available when you do it....'cause you may end up needing em. My recommendation would be to keep both wheels firmly on the ground, and remember that Kevin Schwantz you're not...
