I havent really had much luck with guppys I have one left I started out with four im gonna go buy a test kit and everything for when I get more fish soon but here is the question

Will my one guppy do fine with a few platys or mollies and no more other guppys or do i need to get more companions of the same species

yes, it'll do fine. I bought four guppies once, they all died except one, and he lived the rest of his days with a few mollies and a platy.

it mostly depends on the fishes temperment, i have this really big goldfish that i got because i know it would be okay with my other goldfish because it wasn't agressive, and they are all great together. If the fish you want you think it will be okay with yours, go for it

thy wil be fine altogether -they are in the same family of fish
