Your period can be late for any number of reasons, including travel, stress, and hormone changes.

Two days late is not really significant, unless your cycle is ALWAYS like clockwork or you are on a form of hormonal birth control, like the pill.

A home pregnancy test can often have a negative result. A negative result does not always mean not pregnant. I was three months pregnant and had already had my pregnancy confirmed by my doctor before a home pregnancy test yield a positive result.

Wait until you're at least a week overdue, then take another home test. Take it in the morning, regardless of what the box says. When the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is present in your urine, it means you are pregnant. The amount of this hormone increases with time, so two days after yuor period was due may not have been long enough.

The rule of thumb is that a negative test does not always mean not-pregnant, but if you get a positive result, you are definitely pregnant.

If after a week you are still unsure, schedule an appointment with your OB/GYN or women's health clinic. Not only can they give you a blood test to look for hCG, but the doctor can tell during the physical vaginal exam if you are pregnant - if you are, your cervix will be blue.

Hope this helps.

My gynechologist always suggests that I wait at least three weeks (if I'm late) before testing. He says that there are many factors which can contribute to "being late." He says stress, weight fluctuations, and physical illness or abnormalities can alter a menstrual cycle. I think you should wait just a little bit longer before you retest.
