Years ago I had a program that would erase all unwanted data on your hard drive by alternately writing ones and zeros several times. The program went throught all the unused memory of the hard drive. The only programs available today are ones that you select a specific file to erase. The ultilitiy of the old erase program was that if you had a computer you were going to give away you could have that dud run and erase everything that was previously on the machine . Any of those old erase programs available today?

I can assure you that the only safe method of protecting your privacy and personal data on the HDD, is to beat the HDD, to death with a hammer. Believe me there are no software that will erase the data off your HDD as claimed. With the right tools I can strip all the data that any software claimed it erased.

The person who gets your pc should be happy to have a computer. All they will have to do is go out and purchase a new HDD, for the computer you gave them.

Plus I spent twelve years in the Intelligence service, an I assure you the above method is the only way.

If you don't want anything at all on your computer, reboot your computer into dos mode and type in 'fdisk' but know this it is permanent, once you do this you can't get anything back.
