I'll skip the obvious question and ask is it turned on/plugged in(laugh). First, check to make sure you've got the right setup of cables to the right speaker. Check to make sure it's not on mute. Are you hearing a hiss? If you are hearing a hiss then the speakers are probably alright, check the music unit itself to make sure all cables are firmly plugged-sometimes if they are just a little off you'll get no sound. If you are getting no sound from the speakers at all, then there might be a problem with the speakers themselves.

I'm sorry that I need to ask you this, ma'am, but
[a] is the power cord for the speakers plugged in?
[b] are you playing anything on your player?
[d] are the speakers connected to the computer in the correct manner? Because, you see if you plug the speakers pin in the microphone slot, they won't work.
Have a nice day.

Try to use them in a Walkman or ipod. This might be just a software problem.
