A good friend of mine invited me to his family Thanksgiving dinner.
He is married with two kids.

The couple is preparing most of the food but the wife wants the guests to bring a dish.

I am a single man. I don't know how to cook Thanksgiving food.
What should I bring? Where can I buy it?

Thanks.

A couple of suggestions. Not all of them are food but are nice touches to go with dinner. It will show consideration for the family having the dinner. Most Walmarts and Meijers are open all day today. Many grocery stores at least the one where I leave close at 3 or 3:30.

At most grocery store, walmart, or meijer they have flowers. Get a nice bouquet. The wife would appreciate it. It would help decorate the house.

Skip the wine. Not everyone drinks liquor. Get a bottle of grape juice in a wine style bottle. It is in the juice isle of a grocery store, walmart or meijer. Since the family has children then the kids can have a drink out of a wine style bottle.

Get a precooked apple pie at grocery store, walmart, or meijer.
or
Get a prepared tray of appetizers. they are either in deli area or in cooler near deli.
or
Get 1 or 2 different premade cheese ball and nice crackers. Then get nice plate to put them on.

Also get one or two packages of Thanksgiving themed dessert plates. That way they don't need to wash them later. They can be used for appetizers or dessert.

Offer to help do dishes after dinner if they are cleaning up then. It will help them feel like they are being appreciated since they have done most of the cooking.

Have a good time with your friends. Make sure to thank them for the nice time. Also be thinking about what you are thankful for. Many people on thanksgiving ask everyone to say what they are thankful for at the table instead of saying grace.

Happy Thanksgiving to you.

Since the meal seems to be well in hand, your friend should probably lean toward bringing a host/hostess gift instead of something for the table (unless they've specifically asked for a dish to pass). Candies, nuts, small floral arrangement, nice holiday-scented candle or sachets would all be nice. Happy Thanksgiving!

Make some jello and put some fruit in it. Another nice thing to take would be some pop and chips, that way everyone can sit around and munch while watching the game.
I might also suggest going to the grocery store and picking up a cheese log or two and some crackers, if you think she wouldn't have that item already.
Hope this helps, and enjoy your Thanksgiving Day.

you can buy a can of green beans, french cut style. 1 can of mushroom soup and 1 can of fried onion rings.
drain the green beans, place in a cassarole dish, add the can of mushrooms and sprinkle the can of fried onion rings on top.
heat in microwave bake in the oven. you now have a greenbean cassarole. or you can buy a ms. smiths key lime or cholcolate pie - open and put in a pie dish. it will look like u did all the work yourself

umm, you can buy a frozen pie and just follow the directions on the package and heat it up in the ol' oven, or you can make stuffing which is pretty easy, or you can go out and buy something like a cranberry mold or a pre-made cookies or pie. some sort of dessert sounds appropriate.

Make cranberry sauce. It is a simple recipe and is very good. Look on the bag for the recipe. Use the recipe for whole cranberry sauce. Substitute part of water in recipe or all of it for Orange juice. It is good stuff and easy to make.

Olives, cranberry sauce, and perhaps some mashed potatoes would be an awesome dish to bring.

Nothing like waiting to the last moment! Go to your supermarket deli and get a couple quarts of baked mac-n-cheese (go home and put it in your own casserole dish, More presentable this way) or you could get coleslaw or baked beans. If these ideas don't please you call them up and ask what they NEED. Good Luck.

Pick up a fancy dessert at a bakery or bring a nice bottle of white wine. A fresh loaf of bread or rolls would be a welcome addition, too.
