I have this vague memory in my head of the intro of a TV show where some guy is travelling forward through time and it shows scenes of differnet time periods. Circles would zoom out and each circle would show a scene from a different period in time. I saw a parody of it recently and it reminded me of the original show, but I just can't think what it is. Anyone know what show I'm talking about?

It's not Quantum Leap, although Quantum Leap is similar. This one is much older. I'm thinking it must be from the 70s or 80s.

I believe the show you are thinking about is "Buck Rogers in The 25th Century." I saw a parody of Buck Rogers' opening sequence recently. It was on South Park. Cartmen goes out in the mountains and buries himself in the snow. He can't stand the wait on the Nintendo Wii. He over shoots that. They start a sequence just like Buck Rogers, Cartman (Buck too) looks as if he is falling, while different scenes open up behind him in a circular pattern. In the South Park episode they even use the Buck Rogers Music.

There was a really old 60's show (season 1 was 1966) called The Time Tunnel. The 2 main characters would be launched through a, well, time tunnel (sorta like the Stargate thingy) to different periods of history (or the future), and have pretty stupid adventures. No attempt was made to get the history right.
The white coats back at the control room mainly just twisted knobs in panic while monitoring the disastrous situations Tony and Doug got into.

Doctor Who is a long-running British science fiction television programme (and 1996 television movie) produced by the BBC about a mysterious time-travelling adventurer known as "The Doctor", who explores time and space with his companions, fighting evil.

The programme is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest-running science fiction television series in the world[1] and is also a significant part of British popular culture.[2][3] It has been recognised for its imaginative stories, creative low-budget special effects during its original run and pioneering use of electronic music (originally produced by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop). In Britain and elsewhere, the show has become a cult television favourite on a par with Star Trek and has influenced generations of British television professionals, many of whom grew up watching the series. It has received recognition from critics and the public as one of the finest British television programmes, including a BAFTA Award for Best Drama Series in 2006.

The programme originally ran from 1963 to 1989. A television movie was made in 1996, and the programme was successfully relaunched in 2005, produced in-house by BBC Wales. Some development money for the new series is contributed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), which is credited as a co-producer in overseas markets, although they do not have creative input into the series.

A Christmas special, The Runaway Bride, is scheduled to air in December 2006. A third series, starring David Tennant as the Doctor and Freema Agyeman as his companion Martha Jones, will follow in 2007 on BBC One.

The first thing that pops into my head is Quantum Leap. With Sam Becket is the main character, with his companion Al. Hope this helps if it is it.

I think it is Buck Rogers...Even though he didn't time travel, during the opening sequence, it did show different time periods that he was supposed to be in suspended animation for and it had the circles.

Here is a link to see the opening of the show.
