Night terrors are common among infants and toddlers. There is really nothing that you can do, but comfort them while they are going thru it. If it is going on for a prolonged amount of time, then you may want to seek some professional advice, as there may be something else that is going on.

My girl went through a little period like that... I do believe it was around 9mths too. She quickly passed out of it thank goodness because I had gotten use to finally getting a decent amt of sleep again. She would be literally inconsolable for a good hr before we could calm her down. NOTHING seemed to work. Then, it stopped. The books said too early to be night terrors, but perhaps it was separation anxiety... and I'm a stay at home mom who takes real good care of my girl so it wasnt any sort of 'call for help' or anything. Just a phase. Try not to worry too much, this should pass in the next few days.

9 months old dont have very regulated sleep patterns. And they change a lot from week to week.
Its normal for a child of this age to change his sleep habits and wake screaming in the night.
Most of the time its either because he's wet (babies of this age are bigger and have larger bladders and often wet through diapers, or even have bowel movements at night), or he's hungry, (babies food intake needs also change, and even a baby who never fed at night might need a midnight meal during a growth spurt), he has colic at night, or he's just waking himself up from rolling over.
Its very incredibly unlikely that he's having night terrors or bad dreams. Its not something thats found in infants. In toddlers yes, but infants no.
Children dont even have regulated normal sleep, including deep sleep, until 2.5 years of age. Brain studies of sleeping infants has shown that they dont really have complex deep dreams like a toddler or adult would. That brain activity doesnt change until after the 2 year mark, at which time it becomes more like an adults.
I actually read up on the studies done in this area. You can google it. Or get some infant sleep books, or any books on the science of sleep.

My son experienced this also. Was told by Dr. that we should go and comfort him and make sure he is ok and let him go back to sleep. Said that if we "make a big deal of it" and coddle him, he may be doing it for attention. We luckily didn't have to deal with this very long. I think it is a transition thing as they are growing. I do believe they dream, and it is probably scary at times. Hope this helps.

i became informed i became having a boy (my dr insisted that the midsection beat and how i became wearing purely will be a boy...he suggested he became 100% in view that he were doing this for 40 years....) yet i had a unusual dream about going to three cat farm? with my sister and choosing out a pink cat. when I awoke I informed my husband that we were having a woman. i became so sensible that once i became at a save I talked about this lovable pink gown and purchased it (hostile to my husbands needs, yet I informed him if it became a boy we would purely go back the gown) in view that then i have had to have 4 ultrasounds, all finished by distinct drs and each and every person says female!

He could be reacting to the lack of attention at night, or it could just be something like gas or teething.I wouldn't worry about it, he'll probably grow out of it soon. You sound like a wonderful parent. Good luck.
