My brother choose to be a homeless person. I think he was happy for a while but then he wanted to come home. He was living in a open area in Berlin at the time and he contacted the British Embassy. They had put the process into action and had arranged a passport for him. Sadly for me and my family he was then found dead in a park. I thank god that the embassy were involved because we would never have found out that he was dead. It was difficult enough knowing that he choose not to contact us but we never stopped looking for him we just never imagined that he would leave the country.
A mother of another homeless person contacted us via the embassy. She told us that Dave had lived rough with her daughter and she had often made trips into Berlin to meet them. She described a group of comrades who hung out together and though they had no material things were happy in each others company and that we should not be sad, because Dave had known love and companiship whilst living on the street. I now willingly give money to Big Issue sellers and the salvation army becuase I know that some other homeless people are just like my brother, and they too have people who love and miss them

Homeless people are an even mix of bad and good like all other human beings.
People become homeless for so many varied reasons, not only through drink or drugs but from marriage break down, mental health problems etc, so you can't really say they are all bad or all good.
I would give a sober homeless person money.

There is a mixture of homeless people, kids who have run away from home because of violence or abuse, men who were left with nothing after coming out of the armed forces, people who have had a marriage break up or family feud, so many reasons and unfortunately so many homeless, yes I do give to homeless people, there go I but for the grace of god.

Once upon a i was made to feel as a nobody. So i chose to live on the street. At least there i was somebody to the other nobodies. Most homeless are not so because they want to be. But most are also happier on the street than where they were originally. Which don't mean to say they are happy about being on the street.
I'll buy them a drink or something to eat. I've given them tobacco and rizla before. Very few i will give money to.

People do not get up one day and decide to become homeless. There will always be a history that bought them to thier current situation and for many this can be as early childhood experiences. They might well have been victims of abuse which could be sexual, physical, neglect or emotional. Some may have experiences of mental health issue's.Often these experiences lead to alcohol and substance misuse which can lead to criminal behaviour. It is very difficult for these people to live in the community and sustain tenancies and so become homeless.Thier quality of life is then a downward spiral as they struggle to survive often seeking solace and comfort from the drink or drugs. They are discriminated against by society and vital services and they become institutionalised by thier own enviroment.Society are quick to make assumptions and have little empathy with the homeless.A life changing event can be the catalyst, resulting in a knock on effect that can lead to homelessness.Thankfully there are resources and support available which go someway to helping the homeless.I give money when i can and i don't wonder what it is spent on as i think that could be me had my life been affected in the same way as theirs.

In order to get housing you need a job. In order to apply for a job you need to have an address and phone number. In order to be able to afford a phone you need a job. So all of you who are so against homeless get off your high horse and get real. It happens real quick where you can end up in the streets. Not nearly as easy to get out of it. You are one accident and one situation away from it at any time. Once there even ones that where not into drugs or alcohol can easily turn to it as a form of escape from the daily things you take for granted like even being treated like a human being upon walking into a store. You all get teary eyed over people in other countries that are starving. Yet grab your bags and look down your noses at what is right here in front of you. They are responsable for most of the recyclables recovered. While you whack jobs are driving your suv's talking about saving the forest and throwing your water bottles and cans in trash bins. You are monsters of greed and consumption and waste with tv's in every room and thinking you are so superior to everyone else. You are nothing more than the next situation away from being these people and I hope when you do someone spits in your face. Have respect for your fellow man regardless of his situation you are not god you do not have that right.

You should not give homeless people money. You should give the money to the charities which work hard to help them.
Help out at a centre - your time is as useful as your money. You will also feel good about yourself.

I don't like homeless people because I think they are sad and also because I don't like to be homeless myself. They are not pleasant either. I think those homeless people should help themselves and get a job instead of asking other people for money because other people are working hard for their money too. We cannot offer free money to them, you know. I don't like to give a homeless person money because I think they should help themselves and get a job instead of staying in their situation and ask other people for money.
