yes i agree that lara is the best batsman of his age even better than sachin tendulkar cause lara not only affects the opponent but also brings a fire in his team
i dont know what the west indians will do without the great LARA

but i feel that it is ricky ponting who is going to surpass all the world records except of having an average of 99.96 (record of sir don bradman) and may be also not being able to score 400*(made by the great lara)

Yes. Brian Lara is the best batsman ever to grace the cricketing field. For the person who said Don Bradman. I'm sorry but if you play cricket then you will realise that cricket has evolved so much since those times. Also someone else said in their answer that he was selective on the pitches he played on.

For the person who said Ricky Ponting is going to break all the world records. LOL!
I think Ponting is one of the greatest batsmen i've ever seen but the fact is.........you really don't know how many records Brian Lara really holds do you? It's just not something you can honestly didn't overwhelm you when you see it all on paper. The man is just....................... great.

YES HE IS! what make "sir" don the greatest his 99.9 average?lara has shown his greatness time and time again, as any one he has his downs, but as only the greats, he always comes back better than ever. even at age 36 he continues his dominance, with those beautiful, classy, flawless, trademark strokes of his!! no doubt he is the greatest bats man, n tell ricky ponting hes gotta try alot harder if he even wants to be considered as great. and we arent considering 2001-2006 lara has been a force for over 13 years and still have at least another year to go!!

There is absolutely no doubt that Brian is the best. I dont want any one to tell us about Bradman. thats a different time and different age. On paper, Bradmans record will stand maybe forever so lets just forget that bradman thing. In fact, let us read our history, Bradman was very selective about the type of pitches he played on...go check the records.....he hated wet pitches and often times opted not to play in oorder to protect his record and reputation...he was like a god among cricketers at the time. the issue is not history alone , it all about who is the greatest ever. Bradman's era did not have the technology we have now to study batsmen and work out the dynamics of bowling and strategic analysis of the opponents (something that my country Australia has set the pace in and has taught the world). How do you think we beat the west indies to begin our take over? Lara is the greatest of all times. No other human being (player) has impacted the game like Brian Charles lara. if lara is the "michael Jordon" of cricket then he must be the greatest. Forget about ricky ponting, he is not even as great as Tendulkar....dont go there, please! Ricky is my boy...he is good, indeed a fine player, but ponting cannot be mentioned in the same breath as Lara. What makes Michael Jordon Great, Pele, Maradona, Asafa Powell, carl Lewis, Jesse owens, magic Johnson, Don bradman, ..........Hello!...their achievements!! within the context of their circumstances. Ricky ponting is good but he is part of our fabulous australian team. brian has been part of a weak windies team and still comes to the table with goods amidst the pressure and strain of being the key man in the side....all things considered,,...today as we speak...its BRIAN CHARLES LARA

i dont agree with you

i thinnk ricky ponting would have to be the best , he is more consistent - his 2001 - 2006 average is just above 71. Lara is close but not quite there...

You are 100% correct. He is the batsman, who dominates, and scored the highest run in test cricket. In 131 test matches, he has already equalled the records of Gavaskar. Such a dominance is not seen in Sachin's batting. Sachin is in the team today just because of his name and fame.
