It can be any number of reasons.

She's probably checking his position, and your cervix. Sometimes its better to get a clear picture of the full cervix with an ultra sound.

She's probably also checking to see how well developed he is. Its not uncommon for women to have a third trimester ultrasound to check the status of the baby.

She's probably also checking his size, to make sure you're able to give birth to him on your own. If he seems like he's growing at a rapid rate, as some babies do, she might induce you before your due date (from 38-40 weeks babies nearly double their weight, making them too large for narrow women) which isnt a risk so long as you're past 36 weeks.

I suggest next time you ask her why she's ordering certain tests or doing certain things. Its her job to keep you informed and to MAKE SURE you understand what she's telling you. You pay her for that service.

I have gone through the same. The baby's head was really low at 32 weeks, very painful. I haven't gained any weight, at every doc appointment i had lost weight, until recently, i finally gained 2 pounds. The doc said it was fine, as long as the baby is gaining weight and healthy. But they did do an ultrasound just to make sure all was OK, and it was. Congrats and good luck

First of all, try not to worry too much. If she didn't schedule the ultrasound for that day, she's probably not worried too much either. Just because the baby wasn't breech at your last ultrasound doesn't mean that he isn't now. There are tons of things she could be checking for that you don't need to be alarmed about. Hang in there and try not to worry. Everything will be fine and women usually carry boys much lower than girls.

She's probably checking baby's weight. Most doctors check baby's weight then. Its to give them an idea of how much your baby will weigh when he/she is due. My doctor did the same thing as I am now 39 weeks and expecting a large baby. Good Luck

She might also be checking out the amniotic fluid levels to make sure they are ok. She also should be able to give you approximately the size of your baby.

Maybe she wants to make sure you're not farther along than originally thought. You should ask her.
