Most printers these days will unfortunately not print with one chamber empty, especially when it used ink tanks, like a canon, brother or epson. There is no override for this, the only way to continue printing is to replace the empty cartridge.

This is for the protection of the printer. With ink tanks the print head in integrated into the printer. A small amount of ink must be present as a prime in the print head to act as a coolant (almost all ink jet printers disperse ink via sublimation) If that ink is not there you run the risk of warping or fusing the print head permanently damaging your printer.

I am sorry to tell you the only way to continue printing is to replace that black cartridge.

I'm not sure whether you can change the settings, but there's no need. If what you're printing doesn't have to be in balck and the colour cartridge still has ink in it then highlight the text, change it to another colour and print it out.

If your printer requires a black and color print cartridge, and one runs out of ink--you are out of luck. Its settings are already set...and it will not print...there are no changeable settings for it. Before you ran out of black ink, there should have been a warning of low black ink, then you need to get prepared to replace it with new black cartridge. I have an HP same way.

Even if you are trying to print only color documents the printer uses the combination of both the color and also the black cartridges. So, It is essential to have the black cartridge.

Depends on the printer. Some won't work without a cartridge in or one in that has ink.
