Don't be scared. Gyneacologists have seen many many of the same thing on women that they treat, including privates!! It may hurt, but it will hurt more in the long term if you don't get it treated now. If you are worried about seeing a male, then you should look for a women gyneacologist who has the same physiology, they know how women feel and will be gentle. You could also mention your fears to her and i'm sure she will try to be more gentle and understanding. Please don't hold off on going to see a gyneacologist because things of this type need to be seen immediately. Good luck :)

I know it's hard having a complete stranger examine you, but it's something you have to do if you want to fix your problem. Every gyno I've been to were so nice and very respectful. If your worried about a male doctor then look around for a female doctor...that's what I did. And there's no pain involved, maybe a little pressure on your cervix, but nothing crazy I promise! Just know it's safe and there's nothing to worry about. Go and get that problem fixed girl! Good luck! : )

Please don't be afraid to go to the doctor. Like everyone else on here said, if you are uncomfortable about a male doctor, go to a female. I go every year and it's just something you have to do. About a year ago I went and found out that I had pre-cancerous cells on my cervix and I would have never found out unless I went to the OBGYN. That could have developed into a more serious thing-cancer. I don't want that and I know neither do you. They just removed the cells with laser surgery and now it's all better. It didn't even hurt having the laser surgery. Please don't waste time in going to the doctor, if you have a problem, you need to address it and do something about it! Good luck!

Depending on what the personal problem is, it may hurt. But to be honest, for me it's always just been uncomfortable. And you have to look at it this way, even if it hurts a little, if there is something seriously going on with you, it could hurt much more if you let it go.

Definitely don't be nervous. I remember my first exam, I was so nervous/self conscious/scared ... but I knew it had to be done. And then nothing turned out to be wrong. I've had both male and female doctors do mine. The male was very polite and respectful - but quiet. He didn't ease my tension that much. But the women are usually really friendly and try chatting with you while they're doing their thing, lol. It has never hurt, maybe a little cold! LOL.

I know it's scary, but it's really not that bad and it's over really quick. I'm sure someone will give you a very extensive answer as to what a pelvic exam entails, but there are excellent books out there like "Our Bodies, Ourselves" that can give you great info, too.
I really just wanted to reassure you- it doesn't hurt and it's seriously not that bad. Go to a female doctor and tell her that you are very nervous. She will do everything she can to help you feel more comfortable. We've all been there.

It will not hurt. Go to a female doctor if you are shy. This is something no one likes to do but we all have to bite the bullet and get it done or else we suffer and are in for a lot of serious illnesses.
Get a female friend to go with you for courage and support

He/She will examine you internally and it will only hurt if you dont relax. I know this sounds stupid, but if you take a deep breath and exhale at the crucial moment of being examined it should help. Try and concentrate on your breathing instead of what is happening to you. Good luck!
