Your greatest risk is virus or spyware infection. Bit Torrent started out pretty clean but as it gained popularity the scumbags caught on and there are plenty of infected files out there now.
The statistical chance of the cops knocking on your door are pretty much zero unless you're generating pirate DVDs and CDs on a large scale.
Your chance of being sued by the RIAA or a similar organization are small but if you're unlucky enough to be flagged by them it will get very expensive very quickly.

Dude.... LIMEWIRE F-ing SUCKS. Dont mess with them or Kazaa or the entire Gnutella network. Its packed full of spyware and tracking programs. Im not paranoid, I just know this for a fact because I got busted for copyright infringement and piracy a few years ago from using them for P2P connections. Also, make sure you check all the hidden files those programs leave behind. When you download using them it places multiple copies of the files into other folders you dont know about. Thats how it got me. Just thought you shold know.

There will always be a chance to be caught.. ... also like mentioned there is a great chance you will get a virus first.
