When i try to open an explorer like My Docs, Search, Control Panel or C drive etc, all the icons on my desktop dissapear for a second, come back, and nothing has opened. I can run aplications fine, my firefox and other programs are working, but i have to use 'run' in the start menu to play videos or anything, and i cant delete anything.

This has only affected my user area, but i dont know what to do to stop it...can anyone help? It'd be much appreciated.

Infected. Only Microsoft suffers the "114,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions". There are 811 Other OSes, that are virus free, and most are free and cost you nothing.

Yep, you would probably spend some time getting used to the new one you choose, but, it will be lots less time than you are spending right now, on Microsoft updates, upgrades, anti-malware, anti-Spybot, anti-virus, frustration!

Plus, the other 811 OSes are all based upon Unix, which runs upto 50X faster than Microsoft XP.

Microsoft runs Linux on 45,000 servers and computers at Redmond Campus, Hotmail.com, Microsoft.com, MSN.com, and all corporate routers, and firewalls.

Linux saves Microsoft from the Internet!

I recommend that you try out http://pclinuxos.com (with 1900 FREE games, programs, applications!) .

Download, burn to CDrom, reboot so it runs in RAM disc, and you can install by clicking the Icon on the desktop. Provides 20 desktops (right click on screen, "configure Desktop").

The best way to solve this is to create yourself a new profile that is a new user.
When you have done that log on using the new user. open explore and go into c:\documents and settings find you old my documents folder and copy the files into your new one.
Keep the old one for a bit just in case you missed somthing then delete it.
Hope this helps

have you recently installed any new software or hardware?

shut down the system and reboot it while pressing F8 key, you will find a black screen with various options on it.

select , Last known good configuration.

it will take few mins, wait and once it done your PC should be okay, if by any chance its not try the following

try restoring your system to a previous date. by using stystem restore utility

start-->all program-->accesories-->system tools-->system restore.

sounds like you have done something that you shouldn't have, try and restore the the computer to a time when it was working alright by using the system restore function, to do this simply:
*click start
*click on control panel
*then click on performance and maintenance
*in the top left hand cornor you should see system restore
*click on this and then choose a date on the calender when your computer was working alright, the computer will then shut down and restore your computer to that date and then restart telling you "restore successful, or system restore could not restore your computer to that date please choose another date no changes were made to your computer".
good luck.
