Off the top of my head... posh areas:

Kensington
Chelsea
Fulham
Pimlico
Notting Hill
Islington
Hampstead
Richmond
Dulwich Villiage
Wandsworth
Clapham

In my opinion, people might disagree...
Cheap Horrible Areas

Stratford
Mile End
Plaistow
(anywhere in the east end for that matter!)
Hackney
Finsbury Park / Manor House
Elephant and Castle
Camberwell
Acton
Forest Hill

Cheap(ish) Decent Places

Balham
Shepherd's Bush
Holloway
Streatham Hill
Ealing

Anyway thats all off the top of my head, and a lot of people might disagree because it really just depends.

With London, really horrible areas and really nice areas are very close together. I lvie in Barnsbury, Islington- very nice, but very close to Caledonian Road and Kings Cross which aren't so nice!

The borough means nothing in terms of poshness. Even Hackney has nice bits. Wandsworth borough has the highest % of 6 figre salary earners in the country- also the lowest council tax rates in the country. The borough of Islington includes both the place where Tony Blair's family lives, and Finsbury Park (possibly the worst place in the world EVER). Having said that, boroughs determine your council tax rates, hospitals and schools so you have to consider them.

If you're looking for a nice place to live in London, you have to be very careful. It's not just about the borough, or the name of the area, every individual road is going to be different. Be careful!

POSCHE - is this the posh way of spelling it - or did you not use the spell checker?

Chelsea & Kensington are posh.
