My question is why this ratio but not another like 1:1 or 1:2. Is there any ergonomical or cognitive reasons?

4:3 was chosen for CRT (Television) display mostly due to technical limitations of CRT design in the 1940s and 50s. The earliest CRTs were round and affordable rectangular color CRTs weren't developed until the early 1960s. Again, this was due to technical limitations

9:16 was chosen by Hollywood with the Cinemascope lenses of the same aspect ratio. In order to display movies in the same aspect ratio, the 9:16 display was developed.
