Any green leafy thing is rich in folic acid. Like spinach. Also beans and lentils are high in folate. Or those powdered greens you add to drinks. Or you can buy chewable alfalfa pills (they are minty).

Or you can try just doing a search(to find a distributer close to you):

Here are some ideas for how to get folate without suppliments:

No, it isn't. I tried to get it in liquid form for my baby when he was released from the hospital, and I was informed that it doesn't. But the pill is so small, why can't she take it?

A lot of foods contain folic acid, however, because of the way your body works, you only absorb like 10% of it, which is why it is prescribed (otherwise the doctors would just tell women to eat more of a certain food) so although it will supplement some, it will not compare to the amount she should be getting at this delicate time.

But the question remains, why can't she take the pill? If it's because the doctor says she's allergic, she can't take anything else that contains it. And like I said, it's a small pill, very easy to swallow. Sorry, but I don't understand...

She should ask her doctor because if there is it's probably prescription.

If she drinks a few glasses of orange juice a day she will get all the folic acid she needs. Also grains are fortified with folic acid now (flour, bread, spaghetti, rice) so she shouldn't have any trouble getting enough from food.

Check with your doctor. She should try taking the life brand prenatal vitamins. It has folic acid and a number of vitamins and minerals in it. I have a sensitive stomach and could not take Materna. For some reason the Life Brand Prenatal Vitamins did not cause the stomach upset in me and I take them every day.

I have had trouble swallowing my prenatal vitamins, so my doctor said it was fine to switch to chewable children's vitamins. Just make sure that they have similar or equal amounts of each vitamin, especially the folic acid. It has helped a lot and it's the only way I can get the vitamins down!

why can't she take them? If it is because she gets sick than tell her that a normal vitamin can do just as good if you put some greens in the diet!!

That is what my doc told me because I could not keep them down!!
I ended up and most of the time did not take anything till I was over 5 months because I would puke it up!! Still then I had to close my eyes because it made me sick to look at them. Just make sure she eats what she can! The baby will be fine! Don't panic the child will be fine if she can not take them right now!

I do not know of anything liquid but maybe try crushing them up and putting them in Ice cream or something!!

Good Luck

Has her doctor told her she can't take folic acid pills? Didn't he recommend an alternative? Otherwise, how do you know she can't take the pills?
A LOT of cereals have 100% folic acid in them. Total is one...I think raisan bran...my prenatal vitamins were making me sick my first trimester and my doc told me to eat a bowl of total every day instead...and to chew those kids (Flinstone) vitamins...

She can make sure she eats alot of food rich in folic acid. As for alternate vitamins, I would consult the OB on her case.
