One of the girls in my office is in a file, I try to open this file and it comes up with the warning 'this file is locked for editiing by: 'user'' you can open this file as read only or be notified when the file is free.

You get the idea

What I need to know is how do I change that 'user' name. As all of our computers say user and damn its confusing!

when you registered word, there should have been a spot to put a name and an organation name. The "user" would be the name in the registration.

Greetings!

You need to locate the folder the file is in. Right click click properties and open the security tab.
Change permissions to everyone.

You may need administrator rights.

Good Luck

If you get that message - it means someone has already opened the file and is using it.
Can't change the name.

Find out who "user" is and have them close the file. Look in network places: windows network to find them.

I think it's the licence name...It can't be changed so easy I think...

Maybe you can have a look in the 'User information' tab in the preferences window...I don't know if it helps...
