I really want to buy my kid a PS2 this year, but money is so incredibly tight, I was wondering if it was worth getting a broken one and getting those repair guides that Ebay is auctioning off? Is the repair guide a scam? I have noticed that most of these are having problems reading the discs. How difficult is it to fix one of these? I have some mechanical knowledge on how to fix things, and my kid is pretty smart with electronics, so is this a good idea to buy a broken one? I just don't want to waste money and not know how to fix it. What is your suggestion on which broken ones to buy if I go this route? I am also considering just getting a trade in on his GameCube and getting a reconditioned PS2, since the repairs are already made and it's going to be cheaper. Serious replies only please, as I am trying to give my kid at least something under the tree this year. Thank you! :)

hell no.
that is not worth it believe me I've tried it.
find a nearby pawn shop, they have them there for cheap(under $100).
or walmart, and start putting a payment plan down.

It may not be worth it, because second-hand broken items are always violated by their actual owner. It is wise to ask a VERY kind and helpful friend to help you buy a PS2 and pay bit-by-bit. BUt pls dont tell ur kid about this, not many kids can endure the pain that their parents arent as rich as the other guys. ( this happens to me too)

The PS2 has most of the superb, funnest video games in the heritage of consoles. regrettably, they're going to probably quit making video games for it quickly, i'm questioning via the tip of next 12 months perchance. the superb video games are probably, The Guitar Hero sequence(they're making a gh3 for ps2 fortuitously) The Jak and Daxter sequence (ideally Jak II, and Jak 3) And Sly Cooper (get previous the plain kiddy-ness) And the superb fps/3rdps shooter of all is the Ratchet and Clank sequence, the of all 4 (5th interest coming quickly) is Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal.
