Smoking marijuana during pregnancy may affect your baby's growth and the development of his nervous system. Studies have shown that children who were exposed to marijuana during pregnancy sometimes have problems focusing their attention and solving problems.

Children of heavy pot users may also have problems with short-term memory, concentration, and judgment. (There's no evidence so far, however, that marijuana use during pregnancy causes attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).

One study even found that young children whose mothers smoked marijuana during pregnancy had a higher risk of leukemia than those whose mothers did not.

What's more, there's no way to know if the pot you're smoking has been laced with other drugs (such as PCP) or contaminated with pesticides, which would put your baby at even higher risk. And using marijuana increases the chance that your baby will have birth defects if you're also drinking alcohol or smoking tobacco.

If you smoked pot before you realized you were pregnant, don't panic. The chance that your baby has been affected is very small. Still, it's important to be honest with your practitioner about your previous use of pot and other recreational drugs. She may want to run some extra tests to be sure your baby is developing normally.

A lot of bad things! The baby could be born prematurely, and/or with low body weight. The lungs may not develop properly; just so many things could go wrong for your baby, there is no sense in smoking that crap anyhow, but when you're pregnant, you should definitely stop!

I know a person who smoked cigarettes throughout her pregnancy. She was angry because she wanted a girl and ended up having a boy. She went into early labor and was then crying and heartbroken because her tiny baby boy was in an incubator unable to breathe by himself. She's a friend of my sister in law, so I don't know what happened to the baby; hopefully he's okay now. But why would you even consider taking that risk for your baby?

There have been studies (from Jamaica no doubt) that Marijuana eases nausea during pregnancy, however I would worry about the long term effects since this is something that has not really been tested all that much. You are still smoking. I don't think you can do it without believing there is at least a chance at harming your child. I don't know why you would risk it.

My sister in law is a pot head, and she is so into it that she doesn't care about anything else but pot, it seams that's that is all she ever thinks about. Anyway, she has 2 daughters and one one the way! She has never quit pot, she has smoked pot through her first two pregnancies and this new baby too. Her first two daughters were born full term but they were only 5 pounds each, one of the effects of smoking (anything) on a baby is low birth weight. The girls are somehow weird, they cannot focus on things, they get distracted very easily and they are not speaking yet, one is 3yo the other one almost 2. They physical look weird, like their eyes are too far apart and the have very very round heads and they are ALWAYS sick. I know these girls and the one she has on the way will always have problems, there are no way you do something illegal without consequences.

When pregnant women use marijuana, they run the risk of having smaller babies with lower birth weights, who are more likely than other babies to develop health problems. Some studies have also found indications of developmental delays in children exposed to marijuana before birth.

So, bottom line, don't do it, your baby will thank you!

many many bad things can happen such as
low birth weight
non developed lungs
misscarriage
still born
and a premature baby

... it makes me mad when people drink, smoke, or do drugs while pregnant. it is not right! its not the babys choice for you to do that. it cant help it and people are hurting it by doing those horrible things. be smart and make the right choices. NEVER do drugs or smoke or drink while pregnant.

Low birthrate, baby born addicted, brain, liver and other organ damage. Everything that goes into the mother's mouth or stomach, goes straight into that baby. No baby deserves that.

Oh please be kidding. Please don't be some idiot who jeopardizes their childs health with your own selfishness.

Mental disabilities and retardation, physical ailments, poor health in general. These are basic after effects for a child who's poor excuse for a mother smoked marijuana while pregnant.

I firmly believe women who endanger their childs health prenatally should be criminally charged for child endangerment, and in some cases, attempted murder.
