My car valued at 5k was stolen two months ago. The car was recovered but torched beyond recognition. The car was totaled. The thieves were never caught and all I had was liability insurance. So i lost my car and 5k down the drain. Then last week I found a car on ebay that I liked(97 toyota camry with 74k miles) I wired the $2500 western Union to the seller. I never received the car and Im out $2500. I have contacted the police, western union, and ebay to get my money back. SO far i get nothing. I have lost a total of $7500 and my savings is depleted. What can i do to get my money back? Western Union doesnt insure the lost money and ebay is wipign their hands clean as well. I am starting to hate the laws in this country. If you steal you DIE. Simple. I am a victim and I have no money left. What can I do to get justice and get money back. I cant afford an attorney with no money.

I am a bit confused as to how you were to receive the car from the eBay seller. Presumably the seller would have to drive the car to you or you would have to pick the car up from the seller, in either case there is no need to wire the money to the seller as you can provide cash, a bank cheque or money order on the spot. Furthermore I believe eBay specifically warn AGAINST using Western Union money transfers.

But this of course does not answer your questions. How do you get your money back?

1. without insurance or identification of the theives, you have no chance of getting the $5K back.

2. regarding the $2,500 ebay transaction, you could possibly see a community legal centre and get a letter of demand written by a lawyer to the recipient, threatening to commence legal action if they do not return your money. This is unlikely to actually work but it may be a starting point. Depending on the policies of the centre, they may be able to initaite proceedings on your behalf. I take it you have the seller's full name and address?

Good luck.

You under insured your car, sent $2,500 to a complete stranger for another car without finding out Ebay and Western Union's policies and procedures to protect your money. You're not a victim of anything but you're own inability to use some common sense.

You are pretty much screwed, accept the fact that your car is gone and your $2500 is gone.

Don't you read the warnings Ebay give out. Do not, again do not wire money to people you don't know.

Many cars are reported stolen after being torched by their owners, so I suspect your problems may be just beginning.

Anyone who buys big-ticket items, especially cars, without actually seeing, feeling and seeing the item in person is either terminally optimistic or incurably dumb. Or possibly trying to pull off another scam by making a false claim, without realizing the kind of proof that will be required to do it successfully.

But you expect people to be sympathetic and send you money, eh?
