Is it grammatically correct to use the verb” to be” in a singular form after noun tips used in plural? To me it sounds strange if one says: The tips is appreciated. Is it possible?

Thanks in advance

no! no! no! when your noun is plural, then all must match. there are exceptions. coffee, sugar, money. there are plenty more but these nouns, while suggesting singular could also mean plural but because they are ambiguous, the verb is singular. "the tips are..." is correct. the english language is very difficult because we get our language from so many sources we also inherit the rules that come from the borrowed words/phrases. when in doubt, get yourself a really good english language info text, like the ones used in major newspapers, and go from there. i don't know where you're from but try the ny times or the philadelphia , pa major newspapers. they are major dailies & seem to care what gets printed. contact the paper's editor for references. i did years ago when i first started college and the then editor of the ny times, for a small fee, sent me a copy of his english grammar text. i still have it & still refer to it on many an occassion. i'm native born, speak english (or variations thereof) but still need assistance from time to time. ok? hope this helps!

If the word is plural use "are". Only use "is" if the word is in the singular form and just happens to end in "s", like the word "dress."

"is" is singular so it would be used with a singular noun.

"are" is plural so it would be used with plural nouns.

I see that another answerer gave you an example of how the verb forms are used in sentences.

Re "to be" - It is used with both singular & plural nouns e.g., "I want to be a nurse" or "They want to be engineers."

You're welcome, meaning you are welcome. ha, ha
