my computer keeps on hanging every now and then. many of the programs when i start do not respond.this is so annoying .what shud i do?

1) Run disk clean up. by start-->all programs-->accesories-->system tools-->disk clean up.
2)run disk defrag, from system tools-->disk defrag
3)observe exactly when your system hangs, which particular application is running that time, say internet explorer, or office, try having updates of those.
3)also check with the RAM and Virtual memory
4)stop start up items, from start-->run-->type msconfig, uncheck load start up items. reboot the system
5)run chkdsk once. you can run it by typing it in command prompt.

defragment the hard drive, run antivirus, spybot search and destroy, disk clean. Upgrade your ram if all else fails
