how do i get an expression for the cost function in terms of x,y,and z ( the width, length, and height, respectively) for the total cost of the materials required?

Find the areas of each surface and multiply them by their cost per sq m. Example: the top's area is xy so it costs 12000xy dollars.

do you know what a net is?

[2xy * 12 +xz*17 + xz*8 + 2yz*8]* $1000*U = cost

since U is free set to 0 a box with no volume costs nothing. you need an other constraint IE the volume

set z = ax , y= bx and solve for a & b

24b x^2 +26 a x^2 + 16 ab x^2

12b+8ab+13a=X
