Can someone please help me with a problem with my young sons pc.
For some reason the quick start welcome screen has vanished, checked the control panel then user accounts, roughly it says that he loaded a programme and it has disabled it. t mentioned a file with the word gena in it that may be causing the prob. I tried all last night to get it back on but all I get is a blue windows xp box with my sons name and password and a scroll down menu, shut down restart etc.
I am sorry not to give you more info, I am disabled and all this is draining me.

Any help would be most gratefully accepted, and thankyou for your help.

If in doubt of what your son has done to the PC, use the windows XP System Restore to restore it back to the correct state (assuming you are running Windows XP).

NO data will be lost!

START > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Select the option to restore the system, and then select a date from when to restore from. The process should take no longer then 10-15 minutes.

Try a simple system restore. Click Start>all programs>accessories>click on system restore. Find the program that he loaded and uninstall it. Hopefully the program will restore the setting back to where they were before the program installed.

Good Luck

Go to Control Panel>User Accounts>Change the way users log on/off>Tick the box near "use welcome screen". That should do it. Sys. Restore doesn't help AFAIK. Had the same problem once, a friend helped me out.

Firstly Check that gena.in. If it exists Remove that from your computer. It May solve your problem,
Or
Just Typin Administrator in the user textbox without any spell mistake and then try to change that one in control panel. In my view it must solve that one.

Its GINA not gena.

GINA = Graphical Indentification and Authentication

The message may have related to msgina.dll or rtl2gina.dll.

If you have recently installed a Netgear USB wireless adaptor this is known to cause a problem, althoguh the problem is not exclusive to this situation.

A fix is here:

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/fix_xp_logon.htm

When you run the tool it'll tell you if you have a "bad" GINA file and prompt you whether you want to fix it.
