Hmm, i think it's a dead end. Buy a new hard drive and do not buy Dell PCs next time, they are ready to blow up. Or try booting up in a few days, there may still be miracles. If so, quickly backup all data .

YOU are in big trouble if you had really important files on that HD. It is dead, here are a few reasons why it may be dead:
1. You force your computer to shut down too many times by holding the Power Button
2. If your computer is hooked to a surge protector, you have turned that swich off while the computer is still on.
3. read head crash, where the internal read-and-write head of the device touches a platter, or a magnetic data storage surface
Here is a way to fix it.
If you have a laptop this will not work!! Also you will need to spend a wee bit of money!
1. open the case
2. Look for your HD,refer to your manual or ask the customer service for your computer brand.
3. When you do find it try to get it out (NEVER FORCE ANYTING OUT OF A COMPUTER!!!) if it wont come out it maybe screwed in so you might need a screw drive.
4. Look to see which type of Cables it uses.
5. The Power supply is also connected to the drive so be careful (you wont need to bring this.) Also if you are unsure of which type of plugs your HD uses refer the the links!
6. Bring your HD and the Data Cable to your Local Computer store and ask them for a HD with the same Data cable type and a similar HD. If they try to sell you a differnt data cable dont listen, the one you already have is the only cable that will work with your motherbord
7. If you are unsure about installing the HD your self ask some one at the store if they can install it for you. Or ask a friend

You can search on this forum for dell and see the same problems others are having. For some reason Dell has a chronic problem of this. I've worked on two dell computers that a person bought from dell and both computers have the same problem. Try going into the tower and unplug the harddrive and plug it back in. For some stupid reason, this worked for me. Dell uses these crappy connections are supposed to be outdated. Don't go out and buy a new hard drive because of these connectors. Dell did this so you have to buy from them. If you fried your harddrive, then contact Dell and raise Hell. Don't buy DELL.

Your Hard Disk has failed. It is no use to you any longer - the data is NOT lost! There are companies that can retrieve the data from such failed disks - but it's expensive. If the info is very important to you, fork out the cash to get this done.

There are lots of places that can recover your data for you. Try looking in your local Thomsons and/or phone book and/or yellow pages.
