Unfortunately it's a truism that you can't make an omlette without breaking some eggs. Every significant event in history was achieved through having fatalities. That's a tragedy, but not something that can really be avoided. And yes, every country has shameful episodes in its history. That's not disputed either.
I don't think we should not mark our history because significant loss of life happened. The French and American Revolutions brought a lot of freedom to a lot of people.

Remembernance Day is about commemorating the war dead, of all wars, that's when we can pause and reflect on the price some had to pay for our freedom. Wear your poppy, but enjoy your fireworks and Christmas dinner when the time is right too and you can have a clear conscience. :)

PS We burn an effegy of Guy Fawkes on the fire, so that's hardly celebrating terrorists.

Listen buddy, I don't think that there are too many families that will be high fiving each other over Native American blood baths. I would have to say that for most families today is a day of thanks and family time. Some families will have out of town guests that have come along way to have a warm reunion. Others have invited guests who don't have family to go to dinner with. Then there are the wonderful people who will be out with the homeless today serving hot meals and giving away smiles and encouraging words. Believe me all these people will not be talking about history. Its about being thank full, its about hugging and talking about the future, its about being pleasant and feeling joy. I wish you all of these!

bonfire night is not the celebration of a massacre but the foiling of one.
guy fawkes didn't get to blow the houses of parliament up and the only people to die were him and his co conspirators.

I'm not even going to start with how wrong you are about Christmas

dude, check out your facts before posting.

Dear me, do we celebrate the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE? I suppose i do celebrate Christmas, but the baby-killing spree is only the start of the 'Presents on Christmas Day' Revolution. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, as well as you all know, do not wish to give out presents on the Movie Release Anniversary, but keep the kids under the beds, honey, or they'll want a chainsaw to butcher Mr. Kowalski the 3rd Grade Maths teacher

because it's the best way to remember history. It would be interesting to see how 9/11 will be celebrated in 300 years from now.

independence day is actually being celeb rated because that is the day a country have gain its independence from another country and not on the illings before winning the in dependence. christmas is celebrated by believers of the Roman catholic church because it was spread by the ope that it is the birth of Jesus Christ which is wrong actually noboy knows the actual birth of Jesus Christ

We're not celebrating the massacres, were celebrating the final out come, which is always favourable for those who lived to tell the tail!

Because as the old Latin saying goes... 'Dulce et decorum est pro patri mori' (thats probably wrong) Meaning 'It is sweet and fitting to die for your country'. What a load of bullshit! Us humans are just a bloodthirsty pack of dogs and no matter how many engineering feats of brilliance we create, or works of art etc. that is all we are. SAVAGES. I want to come back as a wheelbarrow in the next life. Ahh, wheely bliss in a lovely allotment surrounded by chickens and hens and geese..........
