It would do it better if you left it on all the time. But this is not always practical due to electricity costs and such. If you do leave your computer on, make sure you have a screensaver to prevent damage to your moniter.
You'll need to restart your computer atlease once every two days though to clear your RAM.

Generally not, the only thing you would really need to worry about would power surges and power outages making it shut down incorrectly, but with a good surge protector or uninterrupted power supply you wouldn't have to worry about it.
Would make you use more electricity though. I leave mine on but set the energy save mode to go into hibernate if the computer isn't used for an hour or so.

Yes and No, if you have your computer constantly connected to the Internet without a good firewall and virus utility, most likely you would get a virus or spy-ware. If you do have a good firewall and virus utility, your computer should be safe.
Also turning off you computer when not in use will save you about $200.00 in electric a year!

You can leave it on all the time but use shut down standby or hibernate. Then your hard drive stops spinning and its easier on the computer because its in "sleep" mode, but wakes up quickly when you shake the mouse and wake it up ;-) Seriously, sleep mode is easier on your machine.
