I don`t really agree with most of the above answers!
Westlife were really cute & nice and it does not even matter if I am a fan or not! From all of the boy bands of the 90`s they were the most sentimental and gave me many nostalgic and beautiful feelings! There was nothing wrong or nasty about them or their music like for example today`s rap and r n` b songs that are really filled with racism and sexual implications!
I wish there were more kind bands like Westlife and it was a pitty they split!

They're only great in UK and Ireland, in other countries people don't get them much, so I can't answer yes to your question. (I know that 'cos I'm nt from UK). I think Take That, Backstreet Boys and back in the day New Kids on the Block (remember them?) were more popular. But still, Westlife are one of the greatest in UK and they have been going on for years and still get No.1s. I'm not a fan of theirs but i don't know why people should slate them, they've not done anything.

They are not the Greatest in terms of creativity but in terms of no1 records they are only slightly behind the Beatles in the UK.
No 1 records do not of course guarantee greatness especially these days with sales figures so low and in Westlife's case their success is mainly limited to the UK and Ireland they are not really considered an truly international group.
They are good at what they do (although they mime an awful lot on TV appearances)

Ugh no way!!!
I get so fed up with their dreary ballads and the fact that they churn out one every christmas in the hopes of reaching the coveted "christmas no.1" spot.
And I couldn't believe it when they won Record of the Year for "Mandy" when it had been released all of 2 minutes and was a bloody cover!!!
Please Westlife, just.....go......away...........
